I just got a text saying I'd exceeded $200 in international phone charges despite being very careful about which countries I called. I used it to direct dial other international day pass countries while in Thailand. This is in Thailand and paid for international day pass to call within or between day pass countries. I posted my first post in this thread years ago. We are now researching dumping AT&T for Google Fi. They get you coming, going, sideways, etc. People think wifi calling is a great way to avoid international call charges while traveling, when in fact it's an additional moneymaker for AT&T. Nobody at AT&T warned me that wifi calling should be turned OFF if traveling internationally. He was helpful, but he was acting like this is a good thing I can pay only $15/month extra on top of $10/per day for their international service! He will not reverse my charges otherwise. Then he comes back on the line and happily informs me that he can solve my problem with the $200 by paying $15 for the month to enroll in World Connect, which is the service people use to dial internationally from the U.S.! All this because AT&T routes my calls incorrectly through voice lines! W.T.(censored by AT&T) eff? Sounds like extortion to me. He retroactively set something up to reverse those charges because I thought I was using my regular direct dial service Day Pass I'm paying $10/day for. then it thinks I'm making a call to Thailand or China from my home country. They say that with wifi calling, it sometimes "pings" my home country (what, if the signal isn't strong enough? Isn't that the problem wifi calling is supposed to solve?). I called AT&T and they said it's because I'm using wifi calling (even though I'd dialed direct), and they'd reverse the charges.
We're in Thailand and paid for international day pass to call within or between day pass countries.
